Will Mother Nature or Mankind be the destroyer of planet Earth?

Every day we are reminded in all media forms that mankind is receiving a wakeup call from Mother Nature informing us that we are slowly destroying the climate of our beloved Earth. But what if Mother Nature's warning isn't a wakeup call, what if it's a slow kiss goodnight for mankind?

It's a fact that the global temperature has steadily risen during the past 50 years or so, the 17 warmest years have occurred over the last 20 years. The average global rise in temperature is around 0.15 C per decade, which doesn't sound much but, according to this scale it'll have risen by a massive 0. 75 C within the next 50 years. And if the polar ice caps are already melting, it doesn't leave much to the imagination of what the Earth will look like by 2059!

Would Mother Nature really exterminate mankind? The truth is - yes. Earth has witnessed many species rise and fall since it's creation, the dinosaurs are probably the most remembered amongst them.

Australopithecus, Cro-Magnon, Neanderthal are to name but three extinct species. Each of those species could have evolved if they had been given the time to do so. Theories abound why they didn't survive, yet we all know for certain they didn't succumb to an asteroid or comet impact in the not too distant past. So what did happen to those species? Could it be fair to suggest that nature saw fit to replace them with a more intelligent species? If so, could this mean that Mother Nature is getting tired of us Homo Sapiens and has decided enough is enough, and we are the next species to disappear and duly be replaced by a higher form? And if you're left wondering where the next form of Homo Sapiens will come from, well that's a question that still defies a definitive answer.

Earth is a planet which is in a state of flux. Since the creation of the Earth there have been many substantial changes in global terrain and global temperature; the Ice Age is the most memorable and the one which saw the demise of the woolly mammoth.

The question we must ask ourselves is this: What has Mother Nature got in store for us?

Will the oceans rise dramatically and our planet become a water world? Will the ozone layer be depleted so much that our Earth is scorched dry by the sun? Will superstorms ravage our lands and bring famine on a global scale? Could it be possible that some future volcanic action would devastate nuclear facilities and release deadly radiation into the atmosphere? Yes, it's a frightening scenario to think that we could be the cause of our own downfall.

The future for mankind is looking extremely bleak. The clock is ticking…
