Leptomycin is a polyketide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces. Leptomycin exhibits anticancer and antifungal activity. Leptomycin inhibits CRM1, preventing nuclear export of proteins. In lung cancer cells, leptomycin induces G1 phase cell cycle arrest; in cervical carcinoma cells, leptomycin increases activation of p53, inducing apoptosis.
