The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Union Health Ministry, has announced that all meat shops and slaughterhouses should secure mandatory licences from the government to continue operations. In a notice to all food safety commissioners and secretaries of urban local bodies across the country, FSSAI said that licences from the civic bodies alone is insufficient.
