Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan announced on Tuesday that the EU will support the Baltic countries to the tune of 28 million euros. Finland's Minister for Agriculture Petteri Orpo was perplexed, saying he received express assurances from the Commissioner that Finland would also receive support if it filled the criteria. Orpo said the reason behind the EU decision must have been that Finland's producer prices had not fallen as steeply as in the Baltics.
Finns' Party Chair Timo Soini says the EU's decision not to include Finland indicates a complete failure of Finnish policy with respect to the EU. He also refuses to believe Orpo's explanation for the slight.
