Petco has become the first natio
nal pet specialty retaile to completely remove all dog and cat treats made in China from its store shelves and website.Officials have yet to determine the exact cause of the co
ntaminated pet treats, but reports of sick pets have been logged for years as pet owners believe that treats originating from China were the culprit. In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA started issuing warnings as early as 2007. Through May 2014, the FDA had received nearly 5,000 reports of pet illnesses suspected to be the result of eating jerky treats--chicken, duck or sweet potato variations--all made in China.
